Thatched roof

Table of contents

When my husband and I were creating our garden 15 years ago, we didn't have any specialized project. We were driven only by the desire to arrange a beautiful space. From year to year, various ideas came to our minds, which we gradually implemented.

Reed roofing costsFour years ago we decided to build a gazebo. At that time, my husband, Jacek, was buying cane. So we decided that the cover would be made of this material. One bundle of reed costs PLN 4, and for the roof (approx. 33 m²) we needed as many as 300 pieces. In addition, there was the cost of labor for professionals - PLN 3,000. Such a roof requires both a strong gazebo structure and professional workmanship, so it is not worth trying to lay reeds on your own.Especially if you don't have the appropriate knowledge and equipment. So we paid a professional company and I think it was worth the cost.

Advantages of thatch

A thatched roof is extremely durable. We were assured that this type of coating can easily survive even 70-80 years.

FinishAfter completing the "roofing" work, my husband laid a stone floor in the gazebo on his own. It took quite a long time because he is a very precise person, but the effect was impressive. We made paths between the rebates and a grill from the stones that were left.

Advantages of reed thatched roofing

Such roofs are ecological, so they are gaining more and more followers. Their advantage is not only aesthetic appearance, but also durability. This type of covering has thermal insulation properties. This means that it keeps you warm in winter and keeps you cool in summer. The reed roof also dampens noise. Contrary to appearances, it is not flammable, because reed thatch contains large amounts of silica. When the layer is well laid and reinforced with a special chromium-nickel wire, it prevents the spread of fire.
