Coming from China, but at home with us, this magnificent shrub is a real highlight of the summer garden. It produces strong, straight shoots with long, single-colored panicles up to 55 cm. They are made of tiny tubular flowers arranged densely next to each other. Garden owners can enjoy the view of beautiful inflorescences for many weeks. Butterflies, bees, bumblebees and many other insects flock to them.
Gardeners also admire Dawid Buddlej davidii's Budley. The plant, popularly known as the butterfly shrub, can grow in almost any garden soil. It feels best in dry and warm places, but does not require full sun exposure throughout the day.The small requirements make David's budleja spread easily. By spreading seeds, it inhabits many dry places, such as railroad roadsides, wastelands or fallow fields. However, in the garden, we do not have to worry about the uncontrolled expansion of the bush. It is enough to regularly cut the faded inflorescences, thus preventing the seeds from ripening. It is also worth looking for new varieties with barren flowers that do not set seeds. In tree and shrub nurseries they are sold as varieties from the Chip series, such as 'Blue Chip', 'White Chip' or 'Purple Chip'.
The new varieties of budlei are perfect for small hedges. They can also be used for surface planting and cultivation in containers. They also work well as solitaire, in mixed hedges and as trouble-free partners of perennials and grasses in the bed. Narrow gray-green leaves create an attractive openwork background for other plants.Budleja sets flowers primarily on this year's young shoots. Therefore, early in spring, shrubs require all the branches to be trimmed just above the ground.Soon new shoots will grow. Inflorescence panicles will appear on them at the end of June, at the beginning of July. Small, tubular flowers in white, yellow, red and purple colors will charm us and insects with their beauty and scent until autumn.
