Begonia leaves are asymmetrically formed.Plants come from the tropical forests of South America; in our country they are grown as small, luxuriantly flowering annual plants.
In addition to the elatior hybrids intended for residential cultivation, there are also numerous (bulbous) varieties for sale for cultivation in boxes on the balcony or terrace. After flowering, begonia loses its attractive appearance, and further plant care becomes unprofitable.
Begonias feel best on light (but not too sunny), warm window sills. Tthe temperature at the cultivation site should not drop (also in winter) below 18 degrees Celsius.
Plants grow well in moderately moist, untreated soil. They should be watered regularly with small doses of water.
Begonias are fed every 1-2 weeks with standard fertilizer for flowering potted plants.
Not necessary as they lose their attractive appearance after flowering and find it difficult to provide the right conditions to bloom again.
Decaying leaves and flowers should be removed on an ongoing basis to prevent fungal diseases. Begonias are rarely attacked by aphids.
Winter begonia can be combined with decorative hybrid forms of royal begonia with leaves.
