Although the homeland of porcelain is China, where it was produced since the 7th century, from the first moment it came to Europe (16th century), it started to arouse interest. Her beauty delighted recipients, stimulated their imagination, and aroused desire, and - like every rare and difficult-to-obtain item - it quickly became a collector's item and a sought-after element of interior decoration.
The real flowering of European ceramics began in the 18th century, when after many unsuccessful attempts, Johann Friedrich Böttger finally managed to recreate itHis achievement contributed to the founding of one of the the most famous factories in the world - the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Meissen - and gave rise to another one: in Vienna, Berlin, Nymphenburg, Ludwigsburg, Sėvres, but also those operating in the Polish borderlands, in Korzec and Baranówka, and later functioning until the beginning of the 20th century.

The first European products imitated eastern, mainly Chinese, porcelain. Even back then, one of the most popular motifs - painted with ceramic enamels - were floral forms, including flowers, which additionally had a symbolic meaning in oriental art.It is this symbolic, but also compositional role of flowers in the ornamentation of Chinese and Japanese ceramics and the influence of their products on the development of decorative forms of European ceramics that will become the main topics of the exhibition.
You will be able to trace the historical development of forms and types of floral motifs used in the decoration of ceramics, learn about various sources of inspiration with floral motifs and the changing style of decorations that corresponded to the current artistic trends from the 18th to the 20th century.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of curatorial tours and a lecture on floral motifs in 18th-20th century ceramics.
